Listen, you heavens, and I will speak;
hear, you earth, the words of my mouth.
Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants. (NIV)
The word of God is refreshing like dew and rain showers. This is how I feel when I open and read my Bible. God’s word refreshes me.
I hold in my hands a message inspired by God. 2 Peter 1:21 says, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (KJV) This is why the message continues to refresh.
I once asked a traveling evangelist about her Bible reading habits as I drove her back to her hotel room. I thought she might tell me how many chapters she read per day. What she told me has stayed with me. She shared that she reads the Bible until it speaks to her.
Since then I have taken more time to allow God to speak to me through his word. I allow the message to sink in, like rain.
God spoke to Joshua when he was to succeed Moses as the leader of the people of Israel and encouraged him with these words: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8 (NIV)
Prayer–Heavenly Father I thank you for your life-giving Word. Like rain, cause it to refresh us daily and make us bear much fruit for your glory. Amen.
